Little Fire x Costa Rica
A collaboration with José Ventura + Melania Fernández + Andamio Escuela de Movimiento
There are few words that adequately summarize the immense joy and inspiration this exchange offered us. It was a beautiful and deeply rewarding reminder of the power of community and human connection.
Little Fire spent two busy weeks in San José, Costa Rica creating, teaching, connecting, and exploring alongside local dancers. In collaboration with our dear friend José Ventura and our new friend, studio owner Melania Fernández of Andamio Escuela de Movimento, Little Fire led a process-motivated residency focusing on the theme of communication. We also had the privilege of teaching at local dance studios and hosting a three day pre-professional intensive investigating the mind/body/spirit connection, directional energies, improvisation, and Little Fire repertoire.
The residency culminated in a ‘work in process’ showing and talk-back at the beautiful Teatro Eugene O'Neill (watch the video). The response from the San José community was extremely moving, “You give us hope for the future,” one audience member shared. The success of the exchange was palpable, and we are honored that Jose and Melania have asked us to make this an annual experience.

Although the language barrier sometimes posed a challenge, the universal language of movement connected us deeply to one another. We want to thank every single body that shared the space with us over the course of those two weeks – your trust and openness allowed the experience to blossom beyond our wildest dreams. We are forever grateful.
